Sacred Heart EX Vow
The word "Ex Voto" means "following a vote", a sort of promise and commitment to be respected.
It is an object given to God or a Saint following a grace received.
This custom has very ancient origins, people used to ask the deity for a miracle, a healing, a birth
of a child etc. Upon receiving the miracle, an object of great value was given to the deity, it had different forms and often reflected the request granted. In Christianity, votive offerings have found their highest consecration. In fact, ex-votos have always been and still are very widespread and represent one of the most timeless forms of popular devotion.
In many cases they have become works of art and collector's items, due to the craftsmanship with which they are made. The donor marks the ex-voto with his name, the date of the pardon. Many of them are represented in the shape of a heart, both for a request in the field of love and simply as a symbol of deep devotion. Also called sacred heart, it is made of silver and sometimes also gold.
The shape of the heart is very particular in the oldest version, it has the tip inclined to one side.
The choice of the Heart in jewels inspired by ex-votos is natural. In fact, the heart is a universal symbol, present in all cultures, and associated with life and love.
It is the engine that moves the body, and also the spirit of men. Born as a devotional object,
today it is used in many objects and jewellery. Sacred hearts have thus become a trend that thanks
it can make known the identity and history of our roots.
