SICILIA DIPINTA
The Majolica
Sicilian majolica is a much loved subject both for its designs and for its decorations in numerous colours.
Made of ceramic and produced in Sicily since the 12th century, they are used to decorate walls, floors, plates and vases
and other household items.
The majolica tiles were influenced by the Byzantine, Arab, Norman and Spanish cultures, which followed one another on the island over the centuries.
They are generally made by hand, with white or red clay and colored glazes. The decorative motifs are often inspired by nature, classical mythology, religious iconography and local traditions. Among the most common reasons are:
the Sicilian landscapes, the flowers, the fruits, the fish and the religious symbols such as the cross.
The colors used to decorate the majolica are lively and bright, often with the use of shades such as cobalt blue, emerald green, fiery red and intense yellow.
Designed and conceived to tell the colors and history of the island
Each majolica tells a story, through colours
and the designs represented in it you will be able to breathe the air of Sicily in all its beauty.
The cities of Sicily have different characteristics and traditions but which they have in common.
I have collected the colours, designs and particularities of the territory to tell, through each majolica, the beauty and history of each city.
The collection is constantly growing, every year I add a new city by including details of it in the accessories.
